Spiritus meus attenuabitur; My spirit will be wasted, dies mei breviabuntur:my days will be shortened,et solum mihi superest sepulchrum.and only the grave will be left for me.
Non peccavi,I have not sinned,et in amaritudinibus moratur oculus meus.yet my eye remains in bitterness.
Libera me,Free me,Domine,O Lord,et pone me juxta te,and set me beside you,et cujusvis manus pugnet contra me.and let the hand of anyone you wish fight against me.
Cor eorum longe fecisti a disciplina:You have set their heart far from discipline;propterea non exaltabuntur.therefore, they will not be praised.
Prædam pollicetur sociis,He promises prey to his companions,et oculi filiorum ejus deficient.but the eyes of his sons will grow faint.
Posuit me quasi in proverbium vulgi,He has posted me like a proverb to the people,et exemplum sum coram eis.and I am an example in their presence.
Caligavit ab indignatione oculus meus,My eyesight has been clouded by indignation,et membra mea quasi in nihilum redacta sunt.and my limbs have been reduced, as if to nothing.
Stupebunt justi super hoc,The just will be astounded over this,et innocens contra hypocritam suscitabitur.and the innocent will be stirred up against the hypocrite.
Et tenebit justus viam suam,And the just will cling to his way,et mundis manibus addet fortitudinem.and clean hands will increase strength.
Igitur omnes vos convertimini,Therefore, be converted,et venite, all of you,et non inveniam in vobis ullum sapientem.and approach, for I do not find in you any wisdom.
Dies mei transierunt; My days have passed away;cogitationes meæ dissipatæ sunt,my thoughts have been scattered, torquentes cor meum.tormenting my heart.
Noctem verterunt in diem,They have turned night into day,et rursum post tenebras spero lucem.and I hope for light again after the darkness.
Si sustinuero,If I should wait, infernus domus mea est,the underworld is my house,et in tenebris stravi lectulum meum.and in darkness I have spread out my bed.
Putredini dixi:I have said to decayPater meus es;and to worms:Mater mea,“You are my father,et soror mea,my mother, vermibus.and my sister.”
Ubi est ergo nunc præstolatio mea? Therefore, where is my expectation now,et patientiam meam quis considerat?and who is it that considers my patience?
In profundissimum infernum descendent omnia mea:Everything of mine will descend into the deepest underworld; do you think that, putasne saltem ibi erit requies mihi?in that place at least, there will be rest for me?
