Congregatique sunt omnes filii Israël in Silo,And all the sons of Israel gathered together at Shiloh, ibique fixerunt tabernaculum testimonii, and there they stationed the Tabernacle of the Testimony.et fuit eis terra subjecta. And the land was subjected to them.
Remanserant autem filiorum Israël septem tribus, quæ necdum acceperant possessiones suas. But there remained seven tribes of the sons of Israel which had not yet received their possessions.
Ad quos Josue ait:And Joshua said to them:Usquequo marcetis ignavia, et non intratis ad possidendam terram,“For how long will you draw back in idleness, and not enter to possess the land, quam Dominus Deus patrum vestrorum dedit vobis?which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given to you?
Eligite de singulis tribubus ternos viros,Select three men from each tribe,ut mittam eos,so that I may send them,et pergant atque circumeant terram, and they may go forth and circle through the land,et describant eam juxta numerum uniuscujusque multitudinis:and may describe it according to the number of each multitude, referantque ad me quod descripserint.and may bring back to me what they have written down.
Dividite vobis terram in septem partes:Divide the land for yourselves into seven parts.Judas sit in terminis suis ab australi plaga,Let Judah be its bounds on the southern side,et domus Joseph ab aquilone.and the house of Joseph to the north.
Mediam inter hos terram in septem partes describite:The land that is in the middle, between these, write it down in seven parts.et huc venietis ad me,And you shall come to me,ut coram Domino Deo vestro mittam vobis hic sortem:so that I may cast lots for you about this, before the Lord your God.
quia non est inter vos pars Levitarum,But there is no portion among you for the Levites.sed sacerdotium Domini est eorum hæreditas.Instead, the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance.Gad autem et Ruben,And Gad and Reuben,et dimidia tribus Manasse, and the one half tribe of Manasseh, jam acceperant possessiones suas trans Jordanem ad orientalem plagam, have already received their possessions beyond the Jordan in the eastern region, quas dedit eis Moyses famulus Domini.which Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave to them.”
Cumque surrexissent viri,And when the men had risen up,ut pergerent ad describendam terram,so that they might go out to describe the land,præcepit eis Josue,Joshua instructed them, dicens:saying,Circuite terram,“Circle through the land,et describite eam,and describe it,ac revertimini ad me:and return to me,ut hic coram Domino,so that I may cast lots for you about this,in Silo, before the Lord, mittam vobis sortem.in Shiloh.”
Itaque perrexerunt:And so they went out.et lustrantes eam,And surveying it,in septem partes diviserunt, they divided it into seven parts, scribentes in volumine.writing it in a book.Reversique sunt ad Josue in castra Silo. And they returned to Joshua, to the camp at Shiloh.
