Dicite filiis Israël:Say to the sons of Israel:Hæc sunt animalia quæ comedere debetis de cunctis animantibus terræ:These are the animals that you ought to eat out of all the living things of the earth.
omne quod habet divisam ungulam,All that has a divided hoof,et ruminat in pecoribus, and that chews over again, among the cattle, comedetis.you shall eat.
Quidquid autem ruminat quidem,But whatever certainly chews over again,et habet ungulam, but has a hoof that is not divided, sed non dividit eam, such as the camelsicut camelus et cetera, and others, non comedetis illud, these you shall not eat,et inter immunda reputabitis.and you shall consider them to be among what is unclean.
Chœrogryllus qui ruminat,The rock rabbit which chews over again, ungulamque non dividit, and whose hoof is not divided, immundus est.is unclean,
Lepus quoque:and so also is the hare, nam et ipse ruminat, for it too chews over again, sed ungulam non dividit.yet its hoof is not divided,
Et sus:and also the swine, qui cum ungulam dividat, which, though its hoof is divided, non ruminat.does not chew over again.
Horum carnibus non vescemini,The flesh of these you shall not eat,nec cadavera contingetis, nor shall you touch their carcasses, quia immunda sunt vobis.because they are unclean to you.
Hæc sunt quæ gignuntur in aquis,These are the things that breed in the waters,et vesci licitum est:and which it is lawful to eat.omne quod habet pinnulas et squamas,All that has little fins and scales, tam in mari quam in fluminibus et stagnis,as much in the sea, as in the rivers and ponds, comedetis.you shall eat.
Quidquid autem pinnulas et squamas non habet,But whatever does not have fins and scales, eorum quæ in aquis moventur et vivunt,of those things that live and move in the waters, abominabile vobis, shall be abominable to you,
execrandumque erit:and detestable;carnes eorum non comedetis, their flesh you shall not eat,et morticina vitabitis.and their carcasses you shall avoid.
Cuncta quæ non habent pinnulas et squamas in aquis,All that does not have finspolluta erunt.and scales in the waters shall be polluted.
Hæc sunt quæ de avibus comedere non debetis,These are those things among the birds which you must not eat,et vitanda sunt vobis:and which are to be avoided by you:aquilam, the eagle,et gryphem, and the griffin,et haliæetum, and the osprey,
et milvum ac vulturem juxta genus suum, and the kite, as well as the vulture, according to their kind,
et omne corvini generis in similitudinem suam, and all that is of the raven kind, according to their likeness,
struthionem, the ostrich,et noctuam, and the owl,et larum, and the gull,et accipitrem juxta genus suum:and the hawk, according to its kind,

Quidquid autem ambulat quidem super quatuor pedes,But whatever certainly walks upon four feet, sed habet longiora retro crura, and also has longer legs behind, per quæ salit super terram, with which it hops upon the earth,
comedere debetis, you shall eat,ut est bruchus in genere suo, such as the beetle in its kind,et attacusand the cricket, atque ophiomachus, and grasshopper,ac locusta, and the locust, singula juxta genus suum.each one according to its kind.
Quidquid autem ex volucribus quatuor tantum habet pedes,But among flying things, execrabile erit vobis:whatever has only four feet shall be detestable to you.
et quicumque morticina eorum tetigerit, polluetur,And whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be defiled,et erit immundus usque ad vesperum:and he shall be unclean until evening.
et si necesse fuerit ut portet quippiam horum mortuum,And if it will be necessary to carry any of these dead things, lavabit vestimenta sua,he shall wash his clothes,et immundus erit usque ad occasum solis.and he shall be unclean until the sun sets.
Omne animal quod habet quidem ungulam,Every animal that certainly has a hoof, but which is not divided, sed non dividit eam,nor does it chew over again, nec ruminat, shall be unclean.immundum erit: et qui tetigerit illud, contaminabitur. And whoever will have touched it shall be contaminated.

Omnia hæc immunda sunt. All these are unclean.Qui tetigerit morticina eorum, immundus erit usque ad vesperum:Whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be unclean until evening.
et super quod ceciderit quidquam de morticinis eorum,And anything upon which something from their carcasses will have fallen shall be defiled, polluetur, whether it is a vessel of wood, tam vas ligneum et vestimentum,or a garment, quam pelles et cilicia:or skins,et in quocumque fit opus,or haircloths, tingentur aqua,or anything by which work is done.et polluta erunt usque ad vesperum,These shall be dipped in water and shall be defiled until evening,et sic postea mundabuntur.but then afterwards these shall be clean.

Omnis cibus, quem comedetis,Any of the foods that you eat,si fusa fuerit super eum aqua,if water from such a vessel will have been poured upon it,immundus erit:it shall be unclean.et omne liquens quod bibitur de universo vase, immundum erit. And every liquid which one may drink from such a vessel shall be unclean.
Et quidquid de morticinis hujuscemodi ceciderit super illud,And if anything from among these kinds of dead things has fallen upon it,immundum erit:it shall be unclean, sive clibani, whether it be an oven, sive chytropodes,or a pot with feet, destruentur, these shall be uncleanet immundi erunt.and shall be destroyed.
Fontes vero et cisternæ,Yet truly,et omnis aquarum congregatio munda erit.fountains and cisterns,Qui morticinum eorum tetigerit, and all reservoirs of water shall be clean.polluetur.Whoever will have touched their carcasses shall be defiled.
Si ceciderit super sementem,If it falls upon seed grain, non polluet eam.it shall not defile it.
Si autem quispiam aqua sementem perfuderit,But if anyone has poured water upon the seed grain,et postea morticinis tacta fuerit, and afterwards it was touched by the carcasses, illico polluetur.it shall be immediately defiled.
Si mortuum fuerit animal,If any animals will have died, quod licet vobis comedere, from which it is lawful for you to eat,qui cadaver ejus tetigerit, immundus erit usque ad vesperum:whoever will have touched its carcass shall be unclean until evening.

Omne quod reptat super terram, abominabile erit,All that creeps across the earth shall be abominable, nec assumetur in cibum.neither shall it be taken up as food.
Quidquid super pectus quadrupes graditur,Whatever advances by four feet upon the chest,et multos habet pedes,or that has many feet, sive per humum trahitur,or that drags across the soil, non comedetis, you shall not eat, quia abominabile est.because it is abominable.
Nolite contaminare animas vestras,Do not be willing to contaminate your souls, nec tangatis quidquam eorum, nor shall you touch any of these,ne immundi sitis.lest you become unclean.
Ego enim sum Dominus Deus vester:For I am the Lord your God. Be holy, sancti estote, for I am Holy.quia ego sanctus sum. Ne polluatis animas vestras in omni reptili quod movetur super terram.Do not pollute your souls with any creeping thing, which moves across the land.
