Et post dies sex assumit Jesus Petrum, et Jacobum,And after six days, Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John,et Joannem fratrem ejus, et ducit illos in montem excelsum seorsum:and he led them onto a lofty mountain separately.
et transfiguratus est ante eos.And he was transfigured before them.Et resplenduit facies ejus sicut sol:And his face shined brightly like the sun.vestimenta autem ejus facta sunt alba sicut nix.And his garments were made white like snow.
Et ecce apparuerunt illis Moyses et Elias cum eo loquentes. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, speaking with him.
Respondens autem Petrus, dixit ad Jesum:And Peter responded by saying to Jesus: “Lord,Domine, bonum est nos hic esse:it is good for us to be here. If you are willing,si vis, faciamus tria tabernacula, let us make three tabernacles here, tibi unum, one for you,Moysi unum, one for Moses,et Eliæ unum.and one for Elijah.”
Adhuc eo loquente,And while he was still speaking, ecce nubes lucida obumbravit eos.behold, a shining cloud overshadowed them.Et ecce vox de nube, dicens:And behold, there was a voice from the cloud,Hic est Filius meus dilectus, saying: “This is my beloved Son,in quo mihi bene complacui:with whom I am well pleased.ipsum audite.Listen to him.”
Et audientes discipuli ceciderunt in faciem suam,And the disciples, hearing this, fell prone on their face,et timuerunt valde.and they were very afraid.
Et accessit Jesus,And Jesus drew nearet tetigit eos:and touched them.dixitque eis:And he said to them,Surgite,“Rise upet nolite timere.and do not be afraid.”
Levantes autem oculos suos,And lifting up their eyes, neminem viderunt, they saw no one, nisi solum Jesum.except Jesus alone.
Et descendentibus illis de monte,And as they were descending from the mountain,præcepit eis Jesus,Jesus instructed them, dicens:saying,Nemini dixeritis visionem,“Tell no one about the vision, donec Filius hominis a mortuis resurgat.until the Son of man has risen from the dead.”
Et interrogaverunt eum discipuli,And his disciples questioned him, saying, dicentes: Quid ergo scribæ dicunt, quod Eliam oporteat primum venire?“Why then do the scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to arrive first?”
At ille respondens,But in response, he said to them:ait eis:“Elijah,Elias quidem venturus est, et restituet omnia.indeed, shall arrive and restore all things.
Dico autem vobis,But I say to you, quia Elias jam venit, that Elijah has already arrived,et non cognoverunt eum,and they did not recognize him,sed fecerunt in eo quæcumque voluerunt.but they did whatever they wanted to him.Sic et Filius hominis passurus est ab eis.So also shall the Son of man suffer from them.”
Tunc intellexerunt discipuli, quia de Joanne Baptista dixisset eis. Then the disciples understood that he had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
Et cum venisset ad turbam,And when he had arrived at the multitude, accessit ad eum homo genibus provolutus ante eum,a man approached him, falling to his knees before him, dicens:saying:Domine,“Lord, miserere filio meo, take pity on my son, quia lunaticus est,for he is an epileptic,et male patitur:and he suffers harm.nam sæpe cadit in ignem,For he frequently falls into fire,et crebro in aquam.and often also into water.
Et obtuli eum discipulis tuis,And I brought him to your disciples,et non potuerunt curare eum.but they were not able to cure him.”
Respondens autem Jesus, ait:Then Jesus responded by saying:O generatio incredula, et perversa,“What an unbelieving and perverse generation!quousque ero vobiscum? How long shall I be with you?usquequo patiar vos?How long shall I endure you?Afferte huc illum ad me.Bring him here to me.”
Et increpavit illum Jesus,And Jesus rebuked him,et exiit ab eo dæmonium, and the demon went out of him,et curatus est puer ex illa hora.and the boy was cured from that hour.
Tunc accesserunt discipuli ad Jesum secreto,Then the disciples approached Jesus privatelyet dixerunt:and said,Quare nos non potuimus ejicere illum?“Why were we unable to cast him out?”
Dixit illis Jesus:Jesus said to them:Propter incredulitatem vestram.“Because of your unbelief.Amen quippe dico vobis,Amen I say to you, certainly,si habueritis fidem sicut granum sinapis,if you will have faith like a grain of mustard seed, dicetis monti huic:you will say to this mountain,Transi hinc illuc,‘Move from here to there,’et transibit, and it shall move.et nihil impossibile erit vobis. And nothing will be impossible for you.
Hoc autem genus non ejicitur nisi per orationemBut this kind is not cast out,et jejunium.except through prayer and fasting.”
Conversantibus autem eis in Galilæa,And when they were conversing together in Galilee, dixit illis Jesus:Jesus said to them:Filius hominis tradendus est in manus hominum:“The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
et occident eum,And they will kill him,et tertia die resurget.but he will rise again on the third day.”Et contristati sunt vehementer. And they were extremely saddened.
Et cum venissent Capharnaum,And when they had arrived at Capernaum, accesserunt qui didrachma accipiebant ad Petrum, those who collected the half shekel approached Peter,et dixerunt ei:and they said to him,Magister vester non solvit didrachma?“Doesn’t your Teacher pay the half shekel?”
Ait:He said,Etiam.“Yes.”Et cum intrasset in domum,And when he had entered into the house,prævenit eum Jesus,Jesus went before him, dicens:saying:Quid tibi videtur Simon?“How does it seem to you, reges terræ a quibus accipiunt tributumSimon?vel censum? The kings of the earth,a filiis suis, from whom do they receive tribute or the census tax:an ab alienis?from their own sons or from foreigners?”
Et ille dixit:And he said,Ab alienis.“From foreigners.”Dixit illi Jesus:Jesus said to him:Ergo liberi sunt filii.“Then the sons are free.
Ut autem non scandalizemus eos,But so that we may not become an obstacle to them:vade ad mare,go to the sea,et mitte hamum:and cast in a hook,et eum piscem, and take the first fish that is brought up,qui primus ascenderit, and when you have opened its mouth, tolle:you will find a shekel.et aperto ore ejus,Take itinvenies staterem:and give it to them, illum sumens, for meda eis pro me et te.and for you.”
