7De tribu Juda,from the tribe of Judah,Caleb filium Jephone.Caleb the son of Jephunneh;

9De tribu Ephraim,from the tribe of Ephraim,Osee filium Nun.Hosea the son of Nun;

10De tribu Benjamin,from the tribe of Benjamin,Phalti filium Raphu.Palti the son of Raphu;

11De tribu Zabulon,from the tribe of Zebulon,Geddiel filium Sodi.Gaddiel the son of Sodi;

12De tribu Joseph,from the tribe of Joseph,sceptri Manasse,of the scepter of Manasseh,Gaddi filium Susi.Gaddi the son of Susi;

13De tribu Dan,from the tribe of Dan,Ammiel filium Gemalli.Ammiel the son of Gemalli;

14De tribu Aser,from the tribe of Asher,Sthur filium Michaël.Sethur the son of Michael;

15De tribu Nephthali,from the tribe of Naphtali,Nahabi filium Vapsi.Nahbi the son of Vophsi;

16De tribu Gad,from the tribe of Gad,Guel filium Machi.Guel the son of Machi.

17Hæc sunt nomina virorum,These are the names of the men,quos misit Moyses ad considerandam terram:whom Moses sent to examine the land.vocavitque Osee filium Nun,And he called Hosea, the son of Nun,Josue.Joshua.

18Misit ergo eos Moyses ad considerandam terram Chanaan,And so, Moses sent them to examine the land of Canaan,et dixit ad eos:and he said to them:Ascendite per meridianam plagam. Cumque veneritis ad montes,“Ascend by the south side. And when you arrive at the mountains,

19considerate terram, qualis sit:consider the land, as to what kind it may be,et populum qui habitator est ejus,and the people, who are its inhabitants,utrum fortis sit an infirmus:whether they may be strong or weak,si pauci numero an plures:whether they may be few in number or many,

20ipsa terra,and the land itself,bona an mala:whether it is good or bad,urbes quales,what kind of cities,muratæ an absque muris:walled or without walls,

21humus,the soil,pinguis an sterilis,rich or barren,nemorosa an absque arboribus.forested or without trees.Confortamini,Be strong,et afferte nobis de fructibus terræ.and bring us some of the fruits of the land.”Erat autem tempus quando jam præcoquæ uvæ vesci possunt.Now it was the time when the first ripe grapes were ready to be eaten.

22Cumque ascendissent,And when they had ascended,exploraverunt terram a deserto Sin,they explored the land from the desert of Sin,usque Rohob intrantibus Emath.all the way to Rehob, as one enters into Hamath.

31Inter hæc Caleb compescens murmur populi,During these events,qui oriebatur contra Moysen,Caleb,ait:to restrain the murmuring of the people who rose up against Moses,Ascendamus,said,et possideamus terram,“Let us ascend and possess the land,quoniam poterimus obtinere eam.for we will be able to obtain it.”

32Alii vero,Yet truly,qui fuerant cum eo,the others, who had been with him,dicebant:were saying,Nequaquam ad hunc populum valemus ascendere, quia fortior nobis est.“By no means are we able to ascend to this people, because they are stronger than we are.”

33Detraxeruntque terræ, quam inspexerant,And before the sons of Israel they disparaged the land,apud filios Israël,which they had inspected,dicentes: Terra,saying: “The land,quam lustravimus,which we viewed,devorat habitatores suos:devours its inhabitants.populus,The people,quem aspeximus,upon whom we gazed,proceræ staturæ est.were of lofty stature.

34Ibi vidimus monstra quædam filiorum Enac de genere giganteo:There, we saw some monsters among the sons of Anak, of the race of giants;quibus comparati,by comparison with them,quasi locustæ videbamur.we seemed like locusts.”
