Dicite fratribus vestris:“Say to your brothers,Populus meus;‘You are my people,’et sorori vestræ:and to your sister,Misericordiam consecuta.‘You have obtained mercy.’
Judicate matrem vestram,Judge your mother, judicate, judge:quoniam ipsa non uxor mea,for she is not my wife,et ego non vir ejus.and I am not her husband.Auferat fornicationes suas a facie sua,Let her remove her fornications from before her faceet adulteria sua de medio uberum suorum;and her adulteries from between her breasts.
ne forte expoliem eam nudam, et statuam eam secundum diem nativitatis suæ,Otherwise, I may expose her nakedness and set her as on the day of her birth,et ponam eam quasi solitudinem, et statuam eam velut terram inviam, and I may establish her as a wilderness and set her as an impassable land,et interficiam eam siti.and I may execute her with thirst.
Et filiorum illius non miserebor,And I will not have mercy on her sons, quoniam filii fornicationum sunt.for they are the sons of fornications.
Quia fornicata est mater eorum,For their mother has been fornicating;confusa est quæ concepit eos;she who conceived them has been brought to ruin.quia dixit:For she said,Vadam post amatores meos,‘I will go after my lovers, qui dant panes mihi, who give me my breadet aquas meas, and my water, lanam meam,my woolet linum meum, and my flax, oleum meum,my oilet potum meum.and my drink.’
Propter hoc ecce ego sepiam viam tuam spinis,Because of this, behold, I will fence in your way with thorns,et sepiam eam maceria, and I will surround it with a wall,et semitas suas non inveniet.and she will not find her paths.
Et sequetur amatores suos,And she will pursue her lovers,et non apprehendet eos;but she will not obtain them,et quæret eos,and she will seek them,et non inveniet:but she will not find them,et dicet:and she will say,Vadam,‘I will go and return to my first husband,et revertar ad virum meum priorem, because it was to some extent better for me then, quia bene mihi erat tunc magis quam nunc.than it is now.’
Et hæc nescivit, quia ego dedi ei frumentum, et vinum,And she did not know that I gave her grain and wine and oil,et oleum, et argentum multiplicavi ei,and that I increased her silver and gold,et aurum, quæ fecerunt Baal.which they made into Baal.
Idcirco convertar,For this reason,et sumam frumentum meum in tempore suo,I will turn back,et vinum meum in tempore suo.and I will take away my grain in its time and my wine in its time,Et liberabo lanam meam et linum meum, and I will set free my wool and my flax,quæ operiebant ignominiam ejus.which had covered her disgrace.
Et nunc revelabo stultitiam ejus in oculis amatorum ejus; And now, I will reveal her foolishness by the eyes of her lovers,et vir non eruet eam de manu mea;and no man will rescue her from my hand.
et cessare faciam omne gaudium ejus,And I will cause all her joy to cease:solemnitatem ejus, her solemnities, neomeniam ejus, her new moons, sabbatum ejus, her Sabbaths,et omnia festa tempora ejus.and all her feast dates.
Et corrumpam vineam ejus,And I will corrupt her vines and her fig trees,et ficum ejus, about which she said,de quibus dixit:‘These rewards,Mercedes hæ meæ sunt, they are mine, quas dederunt mihi amatores mei;my lovers have given them to me.’et ponam eam in saltum,And I will place her in a narrow forest,et comedet eam bestia agri.and the beasts of the field will devour her.
Et visitabo super eam dies Baalim,And I will inflict on her the days of the Baals, quibus accendebat incensum, for whom she burned incense,et ornabatur in aure sua,and ornamented herself with earringset monili suo.and necklace,Et ibat post amatores suos, and went after her lovers,et mei obliviscebatur, and forgot about me,”dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
Propter hoc ecce ego lactabo eam,“Because of this, behold, I will attract her,et ducam eam in solitudinem, and I will lead her into the wilderness,et loquar ad cor ejus.and I will speak to her heart.
Et dabo ei vinitores ejus ex eodem loco,And I will give to her, from the same place, her vinedressers,et vallem Achor, ad aperiendam spem;and the valley of Achor as a passage of hope.et canet ibi juxta dies juventutis suæ,And she will sing there as in the days of her youth,et juxta dies ascensionis suæ de terra Ægypti.and as in the days of her ascension from the land of Egypt.
Et erit in die illa,And it will be in that day,”ait Dominus: vocabit me,says the Lord, “that she will call me,Vir meus,‘My Husband,’et non vocabit me ultra Baali.and she will no longer call me, ‘My Baal.’
Et auferam nomina Baalim de ore ejus,And I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth,et non recordabitur ultra nominis eorum.and she will no longer remember their name.
Et percutiam cum eis fœdus in die illa,And in that day,cum bestia agri,I will strike a deal with them,et cum volucre cæli,with the beasts of the field,et cum reptili terræ;and with the birds of the sky,et arcum, and with the creatures of the earth.et gladium,And I will crush the bow and the sword,et bellum conteram de terra, and I will wipe away war from the earth.et dormire eos faciam fiducialiter. And I will let them sleep securely.
Et sponsabo te mihi in sempiternum; And I will betroth you to me forever,et sponsabo te mihi in justitia, and I will betroth you to me in justiceet judicio, and judgment,et in misericordia, and in mercyet in miserationibus.and compassion.
Et sponsabo te mihi in fide; And I will wed you to me in faith,et scies quia ego Dominus.and you will know that I am the Lord.
Et erit in die illa:And this will happen in that day:exaudiam,I will listen closely,”dicit Dominus, says the Lord.exaudiam cælos,“I will hear the heavens,et illi exaudient terram.and they will hear the earth.
Et terra exaudiet triticum,And the land will pay attention to the grain,et vinum, and the wine,et oleum, and the oil;et hæc exaudient Jezrahel.and these will hear Jezreel.
Et seminabo eam mihi in terra,And I will plant her for me in the land,et miserebor ejus quæ fuit Absque misericordia.and I will have mercy on her, though she had been called Without Mercy.
Et dicam Non populo meo:And I will say to Not My People,Populus meus es tu;‘You are my people,’et ipse dicet:and they will say,Deus meus es tu.‘You are my God.’”
