1Factum est autem post hæc,Now after these things,ut percuteret David Philisthiim,it happened that David struck the Philistines,et humiliaret eos,and he humbled them,et tolleret Geth et filias ejus de manu Philisthiim,and he took Gath and her daughters from the hand of the Philistines.

2percuteretque Moab,And he struck Moab.et fierent Moabitæ servi David,And the Moabites became the servants of David,offerentes ei munera.offering gifts to him.

3Eo tempore percussit David etiam Adarezer regem Soba regionis Hemath, quando perrexit ut dilataret imperium suum usque ad flumen Euphraten.In that time, David also struck Hadadezer, the king of Zobah, in the region of Hamath, when he went forth so that he might extend his dominion as far as the river Euphrates.

4Cepit ergo David mille quadrigas ejus,Then David seized one thousand of his four-horse chariots,et septem millia equitum,and seven thousand horsemen,ac viginti millia virorum peditum,and twenty thousand men on foot.subnervavitque omnes equos curruum,And he hamstrung all the chariot horses,exceptis centum quadrigis,except for one hundred four-horse chariots,quas reservavit sibi.which he reserved for himself.

5Supervenit autemThen the Syrians of Damascus also arrived,et Syrus Damascenus,so that they might offer assistance to Hadadezer,ut auxilium præberet Adarezer regi Soba:the king of Zobah.sedAnd so,et hujus percussit David viginti duo millia virorum.David then struck of them twenty-two thousand men.

6Et posuit milites in Damasco,And he stationed soldiers in Damascus,ut Syria quoque serviret sibi,so that Syria also would serve him,et offerret munera.and would offer gifts.Adjuvitque eum Dominus in cunctis ad quæ perrexerat.And the Lord assisted him in all the things to which he went forth.

7Tulit quoque David pharetras aureas,Also, David took the golden quivers,quas habuerant servi Adarezer,which the servants of Hadadezer had,et attulit eas in Jerusalem.and he brought them to Jerusalem.

8Necnon de Thebath et Chun urbibus Adarezer æris plurimum,In addition, from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer,de quo fecit Salomon mare æneum,he brought very much brass, from which Solomon made the sea of brass,et columnas,and the pillars,et vasa ænea.and the vessels of brass.

11Sed et omnia vasa aurea,Moreover,et argentea, et ænea consecravit David rex Domino,all the vessels of gold and silver and brass king David consecrated to the Lord,cum argento et auro quod tulerat ex universis gentibus,with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations,tam de Idumæa,as much from Idumea,et Moab,and Moab,et filiis Ammon,and the sons of Ammon,quam de Philisthiim et Amalec.as from the Philistines and Amalek.

12Abisai vero filius Sarviæ percussit Edom in valle Salinarum, decem et octo millia:Truly, Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, struck eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of the Salt Pits.

13et constituit in Edom præsidium,And he stationed a garrison in Edom,ut serviret Idumæa David:so that Idumea would serve David.salvavitque Dominus David in cunctis ad quæ perrexerat.And the Lord saved David in all the things to which he went forth.

14Regnavit ergo David super universum Israël,Therefore,et faciebat judiciumDavid reigned over all of Israel,atque justitiam cuncto populo suo.and he executed judgment and justice among all his people.

15Porro Joab filius Sarviæ erat super exercitum, et Josaphat filius Ahilud a commentariis:Now Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was over the army, and Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, was the keeper of records.

16Sadoc autem filius Achitob,And Zadok, the son of Ahitub,et Ahimelech filius Abiathar,and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar,sacerdotes:were the priests.et Susa, scriba:And Shavsha was the scribe.

17Banaias quoque filius Jojadæ super legiones Cerethi et Phelethi: porro filii David, primi ad manum regis.Also, Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was over the legions of the Cherethites and Pelethites. But the sons of David were first at the hand of the king.
