In finem,Unto the end.psalmus David.A Psalm of David.Domine,O Lord,probasti me,you have examined me,et cognovisti me;and you have known me.

tu cognovisti sessionem meam et resurrectionem meam. You have known my sitting down and my rising up again.

Intellexisti cogitationes meas de longe; You have understood my thoughts from afar.semitam meamMy path and my fate,et funiculum meum investigasti:you have investigated.

et omnes vias meas prævidisti,And you have foreseen all my ways.quia non est sermo in lingua mea.For there is no word in my tongue.

Ecce,Behold,Domine,O Lord,tu cognovisti omnia, you have known all things:novissima et antiqua.the newest and the very old.Tu formasti me,You have formed me,et posuisti super me manum tuam.and you have placed your hand over me.

Mirabilis facta est scientia tua ex me;Your knowledge has become a wonder to me.confortata est,It has been reinforced,et non potero ad eam.and I am not able to prevail against it.

Quo ibo a spiritu tuo?Where will I go from your Spirit?et quo a facie tua fugiam? And where will I flee from your face?

Si ascendero in cælum,If I ascend into heaven,tu illic es;you are there.si descendero in infernum,If I descend into Hell, ades.you are near.

Si sumpsero pennas meas diluculo,If I assume my feathers in early morning,et habitavero in extremis maris, and dwell in the utmost parts of the sea,

etenim illuc manus tua deducet me,even there, your hand will lead me forth,et tenebit me dextera tua.and your right hand will hold me.

Et dixi:And I said:Forsitan tenebræ conculcabunt me;Perhaps darkness will overwhelm me,et nox illuminatio mea in deliciis meis.and the night will be my illumination, to my delight.

Quia tenebræ non obscurabuntur a te,But darkness will not be impenetrable to you,et nox sicut dies illuminabitur:and night will illuminate like the day:sicut tenebræ ejus, for just as its darkness is,ita et lumen ejus.so also is its light.

Quia tu possedisti renes meos; For you have possessed my temperament.suscepisti me de utero matris meæ.You have supported me from the womb of my mother.

Confitebor tibi,I will confess to you, quia terribiliter magnificatus es;for you have been magnified terribly.mirabilia opera tua,Your works are miraculous,et anima mea cognoscit nimis.as my soul knows exceedingly well.

Non est occultatum os meum a te,My bone, which you have made in secret, quod fecisti in occulto;has not been hidden from you,et substantia mea in inferioribus terræ.and my substance is in accord with the lower parts of the earth.

Imperfectum meum viderunt oculi tui,Your eyes saw my imperfection,et in libro tuo omnes scribentur.and all this shall be written in your book.Dies formabuntur,Days will be formed,et nemo in eis.and no one shall be in them.

Mihi autem nimis honorificati sunt amici tui,But to me, O God, your friends have been greatly honored.Deus; nimis confortatus est principatus eorum.Their first ruler has been exceedingly strengthened.

Dinumerabo eos,I will number them,et super arenam multiplicabuntur.and they will be more numerous than the sand.Exsurrexi,I rose up,et adhuc sum tecum.and I am still with you.

Si occideris,O God,Deus, peccatores,if only you would cut down sinners.viri sanguinum,You men of blood:declinate a me:depart from me.

quia dicitis in cogitatione:For you say in thought:Accipient in vanitate civitates tuas. They will accept your cities in vain.

Nonne qui oderunt te, Domine,Have I not hated those who hated you, oderam, et super inimicos tuos tabescebam?Lord, and wasted away because of your enemies?

Perfecto odio oderam illos,I have hated them with a perfect hatred,et inimici facti sunt mihi.and they have become enemies to me.

Proba me,Examine me,Deus,O God,et scito cor meum;and know my heart.interroga me,Question me,et cognosce semitas meas.and know my paths.

Et vide si via iniquitatis in me est,And see if there might be in me the way of iniquity,et deduc me in via æterna.and lead me in the way of eternity.
