Psalmus Asaph.A Psalm of Asaph.Quam bonus Israël Deus,How good is God to Israel, his qui recto sunt corde!to those who are upright in heart.

Mei autem pene moti sunt pedes,But my feet were nearly moved;pene effusi sunt gressus mei:my steps had nearly slipped.

quia zelavi super iniquos,For I was zealous over the iniquitous, pacem peccatorum videns.seeing the peacefulness of sinners.

Quia non est respectus morti eorum,For they have no respect for their death,et firmamentum in plaga eorum.nor do they have support in their wounds.

In labore hominum non sunt,They are not with the hardships of men,et cum hominibus non flagellabuntur.nor will they be scourged with men.

Ideo tenuit eos superbia; Therefore, operti sunt iniquitatearrogance has held on to them.et impietate sua. They have been covered with their iniquity and impiety.

Prodiit quasi ex adipe iniquitas eorum;Their iniquity has proceeded, as if from fat.transierunt in affectum cordis. They have parted from the affection of the heart.

Cogitaverunt et locuti sunt nequitiam; They have thought and spoken wickedness.iniquitatem in excelso locuti sunt. They have spoken iniquity in high places.

Posuerunt in cælum os suum,They have set their mouth against heaven,et lingua eorum transivit in terra.and their tongue has traversed the earth.

Ideo convertetur populus meus hic,Therefore, my people will be converted here,et dies pleni invenientur in eis.and fullness of days will be found in them.

Et dixerunt:And they said,Quomodo scit Deus,“How would God know?” and,et si est scientia in excelso?“Isn’t there knowledge in high places?”

Ecce ipsi peccatores,Behold, these are sinners,et abundantes in sæculo obtinuerunt divitias.and, abounding in this age, they have obtained riches.

Et dixi:And I said:Ergo sine causa justificavi cor meum,So then,et lavi inter innocentes manus meas,it is without purpose that I have justified my heart and washed my hands among the innocent.

et fui flagellatus tota die,And I have been scourged all day long,et castigatio mea in matutinis.and I have received my chastisement in the mornings.

Si dicebam:If I were to say that I would explain this:Narrabo sic;Behold, ecce nationem filiorum tuorum reprobavi.I would condemn this nation of your sons.

Existimabam ut cognoscerem hoc;I considered, so that I might know this.labor est ante me:It is a hardship before me,

donec intrem in sanctuarium Dei,until I may enter into the Sanctuary of God,et intelligam in novissimis eorum.and understand it to its last part.

Verumtamen propter dolos posuisti eis; dejecisti eos dum allevarentur. So, because of deceitfulness, truly, you have placed it before them. While they were being lifted up, you were casting them down.

Quomodo facti sunt in desolationem? How have they been brought to desolation?subito defecerunt:They have suddenly failed.perierunt propter iniquitatem suam. They have perished because of their iniquity.

Velut somnium surgentium,As a dream is to those who awaken,Domine,O Lord,in civitate tua imaginem ipsorum ad nihilum rediges.so will you reduce their image to nothing in your city.

Quia inflammatum est cor meum,For my heart has been inflamed,et renes mei commutati sunt;and my temperament has been changed.

et ego ad nihilum redactus sum,And so, I have been reduced to nothing,et nescivi:and I did not know it.

ut jumentum factus sum apud te,I have become like a beast of burden to you,et ego semper tecum.and I am always with you.

Tenuisti manum dexteram meam,You have held my right hand.et in voluntate tua deduxisti me,And in your will, you have conducted me,et cum gloria suscepisti me.and with your glory, you have taken me up.

Quid enim mihi est in cælo?For what is there for me in heaven?et a te quid volui super terram? And what do I wish for on earth before you?

Defecit caro meaMy body has failed,et cor meum;and my heart:Deus cordis mei,O God of my heart,et pars mea,and God my portion,Deus in æternum.into eternity.

Quia ecce qui elongant se a te peribunt; For behold, those who put themselves far from you will perish.perdidisti omnes qui fornicantur abs te.You have perished all those who fornicate away from you.

Mihi autem adhærere Deo bonum est;But it is good for me to adhere to God,ponere in Domino Deo spem meam:to put my hope in the Lord God,ut annuntiem omnes prædicationes tuas in portis filiæ Sion.so that I may announce all your prophecies, at the gates of the daughter of Zion.
