Intellectus Asaph. Ut quid,The understanding of Asaph. O God,Deus, repulisti in finem, why have you rejected us to the end.iratus est furor tuus super oves pascuæ tuæ?Why has your fury become enraged over the sheep of your pasture?

Memor esto congregationis tuæ,Be mindful of your congregation, quam possedisti ab initio.which you have possessed from the beginning.Redemisti virgam hæreditatis tuæ,You redeemed the scepter of your inheritance, mons Sion, mount Zion,in quo habitasti in eo.in which you have dwelt.

Leva manus tuas in superbias eorum in finem:Lift up your hands against their arrogance in the end.quanta malignatus est inimicus in sancto! How great the malice of the enemy has been in the sanctuary!

Et gloriati sunt qui oderunt te in medio solemnitatis tuæ;And those who hate you have been glorified, posuerunt signa sua,in the midst of your solemnity.signa:They have set up their own signs as a proof,

et non cognoverunt sicut in exitu super summum.as if it had been issued from on high; yet they did not understand.Quasi in silva lignorum securibusAs in a forest of chopped wood,

exciderunt januas ejus in idipsum;they have cut down the entrances themselves.in securiWith axe and hatchet,et ascia dejecerunt eam.they have brought it down.

Incenderunt igni sanctuarium tuum; They have set fire to your Sanctuary.in terra polluerunt tabernaculum nominis tui. They have polluted the tabernacle of your name on earth.

Dixerunt in corde suo cognatio eorum simul:They have said in their heart, the whole group of them together:Quiescere faciamus omnes dies festos Dei a terra.“Let us cause all the feast days of God to cease from the land.

Signa nostra non vidimus; We have not seen our proof;jam non est propheta;there is now no prophet.et nos non cognoscet amplius. And he will no longer know us.”

Usquequo,How long,Deus,O God,improperabit inimicus?will the enemy place blame?irritat adversarius nomen tuum in finem? Is the adversary to provoke your name until the end?

Ut quid avertis manum tuam,Why do you turn your hand away,et dexteram tuam de medio sinu tuo in finem?even your right hand, from the midst of your sinews, until the end?

Deus autem rex noster ante sæcula:But God is our king before all ages.operatus est salutem in medio terræ.He has wrought salvation in the midst of the earth.

Tu confirmasti in virtute tua mare;In your virtue, you confirmed the sea.contribulasti capita draconum in aquis. You crushed the heads of the serpents in the waters.

Tu confregisti capita draconis; You have broken the heads of the serpent.dedisti eum escam populis Æthiopum. You have given him as food for the people of the Ethiopians.

Tu dirupisti fontes et torrentes; You have disrupted the fountains and the torrents.tu siccasti fluvios Ethan. You have dried up the rivers of Ethan.

Tuus est dies,Yours is the day,et tua est nox;and yours is the night.tu fabricatus es auroram et solem. You have made the morning light and the sun.

Tu fecisti omnes terminos terræ;You have made all the limits of the earth.æstatem et ver tu plasmasti ea.The summer and the spring were formed by you.

Memor esto hujus:Be mindful of this:inimicus improperavit Domino, the enemy placed blame against the Lord,et populus insipiens incitavit nomen tuum.and a foolish people has incited against your name.

Ne tradas bestiis animas confitentes tibi,Do not hand over to beasts the souls that confess to you;et animas pauperum tuorum ne obliviscaris in finem.and do not forget the souls of your poor until the end.

Respice in testamentum tuum,Consider your covenant.quia repleti sunt qui obscurati sunt terræ domibus iniquitatum. For those who have been darkened upon the earth have been filled by the iniquity of the houses.

Ne avertatur humilis factus confusus;Do not allow the humble to be turned away in confusion.pauper et inops laudabunt nomen tuum. The poor and the needy will praise your name.

Exsurge,Rise up,Deus,O God,judica causam tuam;judge your own case.memor esto improperiorum tuorum,Call to mind the accusations against you, eorum quæ ab insipiente sunt tota die.which are made by the foolish all day long.

Ne obliviscaris voces inimicorum tuorum:Do not forget the voices of your adversaries.superbia eorum qui te oderunt ascendit semper. The arrogance of those who hate you rises up continually.
