Factus est autem sermo Domini ad Jehu filium Hanani contra Baasa,Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu, the son of Hanani, against Baasha, dicens:saying:

Pro eo quod exaltavi te de pulvere,“Even though I exalted you from the dust,et posui te ducem super populum meum Israël,and I set you as ruler over my people Israel,tu autem ambulasti in via Jeroboam, still you have walked in the way of Jeroboam,et peccare fecisti populum meum Israël,and you have caused my people Israel to sin,ut me irritares in peccatis eorum:so that you have provoked me by their sins.

ecce ego demetam posteriora Baasa,Behold, I will cut down the posterity of Baasha,et posteriora domus ejus, and the posterity of his house.et faciam domum tuam sicut domum Jeroboam filii Nabat. And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.

Qui mortuus fuerit de Baasa in civitate,Whoever will have died of Baasha in the city, comedent eum canes:the dogs will consume him.et qui mortuus fuerit ex eo in regione,And whoever will have died of him in the countryside, comedent eum volucres cæli.the birds of the air will consume him.”

Reliqua autem sermonum Baasa,Now the rest of the words of Baasha,et quæcumque fecit, and whatever he did,et prælia ejus, and his battles, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro verborum dierum regum Israël?were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

Dormivit ergo Baasa cum patribus suis,Then Baasha slept with his fathers, sepultusque est in Thersa:and he was buried at Tirzah.et regnavit Ela filius ejus pro eo.And Elah, his son, reigned in his place.

Cum autem in manu Jehu filii Hanani prophetæ verbum Domini factum esset contra Baasa,And when the word of the Lord had arrived by the hand of the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani, against Baasha,et contra domum ejus, and against his house,et contra omne malum quod fecerat coram Domino, and against every evil that he had done before the Lord,ad irritandum eum in operibus manuum suarum,so that he provoked him by the works of his hands,ut fieret sicut domus Jeroboam:so that he became like the house of Jeroboam:ob hanc causam occidit eum,for this reason, he killed him,hoc est, that is,Jehu filium Hanani prophetam.the prophet Jehu, the son of Hanani.

Anno vigesimo sexto Asa regis Juda,In the twenty-sixth year of Asa, the king of Judah, Elah, regnavit Ela filius Baasa super Israël in Thersa, the son of Baasha, reigned over Israel, at Tirzah, duobus annis.for two years.

Et rebellavit contra eum servus suus Zambri, dux mediæ partis equitum:And his servant Zimri, the commander of one half part of the horsemen, erat autem Ela in Thersa bibens, rebelled against him. Now Elah was drinking at Tirzah,et temulentus in domo Arsa præfecti Thersa.and he became inebriated in the house of Arza, the prefect of Tirzah.

Irruens ergo Zambri,Then Zimri, rushing in,percussit et occidit eum, struck him and killed him, anno vigesimo septimo Asa regis Juda,in the twenty-seventh year of Asa, the king of Judah.et regnavit pro eo.And he reigned in his place.

Cumque regnasset, et sedisset super solium ejus,And when he had reigned and had sat upon his throne, percussit omnem domum Baasa,he struck down the entire house of Baasha.et non dereliquit ex ea mingentem ad parietem:And he did not leave behind of them anything that urinates against a wall,et propinquos et amicos ejus.among both close relatives and his friends.

Delevitque Zambri omnem domum Baasa,And so, Zimri destroyed the entire house of Baasha, juxta verbum Domini quod locutus fuerat ad Baasa in manu Jehu prophetæ,in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken to Baasha, by the hand the prophet of Jehu,

propter universa peccata Baasa, because of all the sins of Baasha,et peccata Ela filii ejus, and the sins of Elah, qui peccaverunt, et peccare fecerunt Israël,his son, who sinned and caused Israel to sin, provocantes Dominum Deum Israël in vanitatibus suis.provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, with their vanities.

Reliqua autem sermonum Ela,But the rest of the words of Elah,et omnia quæ fecit, and all that he did, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro verborum dierum regum Israël?were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

Anno vigesimo septimo Asa regis Juda,In the twenty-seventh year of Asa, the king of Judah, regnavit Zambri septem diebus in Thersa:Zimri reigned for seven days in Tirzah.porro exercitus obsidebat Gebbethon urbem Philisthinorum. For the army was besieging Gibbethon, a city of the Philistines.

Cumque audisset rebellasse Zambri,And when they had heard that Zimri had rebelled,et occidisse regem, and that he had killed the king, fecit sibi regem omnis Israël Amri, all of Israel made Omri as a king for themselves;qui erat princeps militiæ super Israël in die illa in castris.he was the leader of the military over Israel in the encampment in that day.

Ascendit ergo Amri,Therefore, Omri ascended,et omnis Israël cum eo,and all of Israel with him,de Gebbethon, from Gibbethon,et obsidebant Thersa.and they besieged Tirzah.

Videns autem Zambri quod expugnanda esset civitas,Then Zimri, seeing that the city was about to be taken, ingressus est palatium, et succendit se cum domo regia:entered the palace, and he set fire to himself along with the royal house.et mortuus estAnd he died

in peccatis suis quæ peccaverat,in his sins, which he had sinned, faciens malum coram Domino, doing evil before the Lord,et ambulans in via Jeroboam, and walking in the way of Jeroboam,et in peccato ejus, quo fecit peccare Israël.and in his sin, by which he caused Israel to sin.

Reliqua autem sermonum Zambri,But the rest of the words of Zimri,et insidiarum ejus, and of his treacheryet tyrannidis, and tyranny, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro verborum dierum regum Israël?were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

Tunc divisus est populus Israël in duas partes:Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts:media pars populi sequebatur Thebni filium Gineth, one half part of the people followed Tibni, the son of Ginath,ut constitueret eum regem:having appointed him as king,et media pars Amri.and one half part followed Omri.

Prævaluit autem populus qui erat cum Amri,But the people who were with Omri prevailed over the people who were following Tibni, populo qui sequebatur Thebni filium Gineth:the son of Ginath.mortuusque est Thebni,And Tibni died,et regnavit Amri.and Omri reigned.

Anno trigesimo primo Asa regis Juda,In the thirty-first year of Asa,regnavit Amri super Israël,the king of Judah, duodecim annis:Omri reigned over Israel for twelve years;in Thersa regnavit sex annis.he reigned for six years at Tirzah.

Emitque montem Samariæ a Somer duobus talentis argenti:And he bought the mount of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver.et ædificavit eum,And he built upon it,et vocavit nomen civitatis quam exstruxerat, and he called the name of the city that he had built, Samaria, nomine Semer domini montis, Samariam.after the name of Shemer, the owner of the mount.

Fecit autem Amri malum in conspectu Domini,But Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord,et operatus est nequiter, and he wrought wickedness, super omnes qui fuerunt ante eum.beyond all who had been before him.

Ambulavitque in omni via Jeroboam filii Nabat,And he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat,et in peccatis ejus quibus peccare fecerat Israël,and in his sins, by which he had caused Israel to sin,ut irritaret Dominum Deum Israël in vanitatibus suis.so that he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, by their vanities.

Reliqua autem sermonum Amri,Now the rest of the words of Omri,et prælia ejus quæ gessit, and his battles that he carried out, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro verborum dierum regum Israël?were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?

Dormivitque Amri cum patribus suis,And Omri slept with his fathers,et sepultus est in Samaria:and he was buried in Samaria.regnavitque Achab filius ejus pro eo.And Ahab, his son, reigned in his place.

Achab vero filius Amri regnavit super Israël anno trigesimo octavo Asa regis Juda. Et regnavit Achab filius Amri super Israël in Samaria viginti et duobus annis.Truly, Ahab, the son of Omri, reigned over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa, the king of Judah. And Ahab, the son of Omri, reigned over Israel at Samaria for twenty-two years.

Et fecit Achab filius Amri malum in conspectu Domini super omnes qui fuerunt ante eum.And Ahab, the son of Omri, did evil in the sight of the Lord, beyond all who had been before him.

Nec suffecit ei ut ambularet in peccatis Jeroboam filii Nabat:And it was not enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. In addition, insuper duxit uxorem Jezabel filiam Ethbaal regis Sidoniorum.he took as a wife Jezebel, the daughter of Eth-baal, the king of the Sidonians.Et abiit, et servivit Baal,And he went astray, and he served Baal,et adoravit eum.and adored him.

Et posuit aram Baal in templo Baal,And he set up an altar for Baal, in the temple of Baal, quod ædificaverat in Samaria, which he had built at Samaria.

et plantavit lucum: et addidit Achab in opere suo,And he planted a sacred grove. And Ahab added to his works, irritans Dominum Deum Israël super omnes reges Israël qui fuerunt ante eum.provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, beyond all the kings of Israel who had been before him.

In diebus ejus ædificavit Hiel de Bethel Jericho:In his days, Hiel from Bethel built up Jericho.in Abiram primitivo suo fundavit eam,With Abiram, his firstborn, he founded it,et in Segub novissimo suo posuit portas ejus, and with Segub, his youngest son, he set up its gates, juxta verbum Domini quod locutus fuerat in manu Josue filii Nun.in accord with the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the hand of Joshua, the son of Nun.
