Aperiens autem Tobias senior os suum,And so,benedixit Dominum, the elder Tobit,et dixit:opening his mouth,Magnus es,blessed the Lord,Domine, and he said:in æternum,“O Lord,et in omnia sæcula regnum tuum:you are great in eternity and your kingdom is with all ages.

quoniam tu flagellas,For you scourge,et salvas;and you save.deducis ad inferos,You lead down to the grave,et reducis:and you bring up again.et non est qui effugiat manum tuam. And there is no one who can escape from your hand.

Confitemini Domino,Confess to the Lord, filii Israël,O sons of Israel,et in conspectu gentium laudate eum:and praise him in the sight of the nations.

quoniam ideo dispersit vos inter gentes quæ ignorant eum,For, indeed, he has dispersed you among the Gentiles,ut vos enarretis mirabilia ejus, who are ignorant of him, that you may proclaim his wonders,et faciatis scire eos quia non est alius deus omnipotens præter eum.and that you may cause them to know that there is no other almighty God, except him.

Ipse castigavit nos propter iniquitates nostras,He has chastised us because of our iniquities,et ipse salvabit nos propter misericordiam suam.and he will save us because of his mercy.

Aspicite ergo quæ fecit nobiscum,Therefore, look upon what he has done for us,et cum timore et tremore confitemini illi:and, with fear and trembling, confess to him.regemque sæculorum exaltate in operibus vestris. And extol the King of all ages with your works.

Ego autem in terra captivitatis meæ confitebor illi:But as for me, I will confess him in the land of my captivity.quoniam ostendit majestatem suam in gentem peccatricem. For he has revealed his majesty within a sinful nation.

Convertimini itaque peccatores,And so, be converted, you sinners,et facite justitiam coram Deo,and do justice in the presence of God,credentes quod faciat vobiscum misericordiam suam.believing that he will act in his mercy toward you.

Ego autem et anima mea in eo lætabimur. But I and my soul will rejoice in him.

Benedicite Dominum omnes electi ejus:Bless the Lord, all you his elect.agite dies lætitiæ,Keep days of rejoicing,et confitemini illi.and confess to him.

Jerusalem civitas Dei,O Jerusalem, the city of God,castigavit te Dominus in operibus manuum tuarum.the Lord has chastised you for the works of your hands.

Confitere Domino in bonis tuis,Confess to the Lord with your good things,et benedic Deum sæculorum:and bless the God of all ages,ut reædificet in te tabernaculum suum,so that he may rebuild his tabernacle in you,et revocet ad te omnes captivos, and he may recall all the captives to you,et gaudeas in omnia sæcula sæculorum.and you may be glad in all ages and forever.

Luce splendida fulgebis,You will shine with a splendid light,et omnes fines terræ adorabunt te.and all the ends of the earth will adore by you.

Nationes ex longinquo ad te venient,Nations from far away will come to you,et munera deferentes adorabunt in te Dominum, bringing gifts. And in you, they shall adore the Lord,et terram tuam in sanctificationem habebunt:and they will hold your land in sanctification.

nomen enim magnum invocabunt in te.For they will invoke the Great Name in you.

Maledicti erunt qui contempserint te,Those who despise you will be cursed,et condemnati erunt omnes qui blasphemaverint te:and all those who blaspheme by you will be condemned, benedictique erunt qui ædificaverint te.and those who build you up will be blessed.

Tu autem lætaberis in filiis tuis,But you will rejoice in your sons, quoniam omnes benedicentur, because they will all be blessed,et congregabuntur ad Dominum.and they will be gathered together for the Lord.

Beati omnes qui diligunt te,Blessed are all those who love youet qui gaudent super pace tua.and who rejoice in your peace.

Anima mea, benedic Dominum,Bless the Lord, O my soul, quoniam liberavit Jerusalem civitatem suam a cunctis tribulationibus ejus Dominus Deus noster.for the Lord our God has freed Jerusalem, his city, from every one of her tribulations.

Beatus ero si fuerint reliquiæ seminis mei ad videndam claritatem Jerusalem.Happy will I be, if any of my offspring will be left to see the brightness of Jerusalem.

Portæ Jerusalem ex sapphiro et smaragdo ædificabuntur,The gates of Jerusalem will be built from sapphire and emerald,et ex lapide pretioso omnis circuitus murorum ejus.and all its walls will be surrounded with precious stones.

Ex lapide candidoAll its streets will be paved with stones,et mundo omnes plateæ ejus sternentur, white and clean.et per vicos ejus alleluja cantabitur. And ‘Alleluia’ will be sung throughout its neighborhoods.

Benedictus Dominus,Blessed be the Lord, qui exaltavit eam,who has exalted it,et sit regnum ejus in sæcula sæculorum super eam.and may he reign over it, forever and ever.Amen.Amen.”
